To our dear Hammie turning 1

Howdy, Jenn here. I am taking over Ein’s blog for this post while he snores away with that crazy leak of his. I wanted to take the time to reflect on what a year it’s been and to celebrate the positive impact Ein has made on our lives, despite sleepless nights not knowing if he would make it, battles with insurance, disagreements with medical staff, commutes back and forth to the hospital, living out of a suitcase, losing 80% of our belongings in a moving truck fire, putting careers on hold, etc. All of it doesn’t matter as long as Ein is healthy and happy. Our hearts are filled with gratitude to all of you who have taken this wild roller coaster ride with us every dip and high along the way. 💕

Happy 1st birthday to our quirky, flirty, nosy ham roll 🐽 We’ve seen him through surgeries, procedures, PT milestones, setbacks, fake whining, lots of arm dinner rolls, ambulance/plane/car rides, 3 hospitals, 3 states, 3 helmets, 365+ days of pumping to a machine, good times, tough times and wouldn’t have it any other way. Cheers to another crazy year of hammie moments.

Ein’s home coming was an overwhelming mix of emotions but mostly glorious with a side of chaotic. Babies are so resilient and way more adaptive to change than we adults are, as we continue to scramble and equip the home to meet the needs of a baby with complex medical conditions. It’s been surreal and hectic with last minute runs to the store already but so well worth it. Most new parents may overlook the significance of a baby coming home and dive right into settling in but for us, it meant so much more as we embraced and soaked every moment of it after waiting for nearly a year.

For his real birthday, 10/6, which luckily ended up being at home rather than the hospital, we brought Ein downstairs and out to the backyard for the first time. He initially was fussy and slept through dinner but enjoyed the outside with all the new sights, mesmerized by the lights and fire pit. It was cute to see him over excited and curious about everything.
